Road Island Diner

Yes, after several times this summer, we finally took the motorcycle cover off and went for a ride. Too many times, we have gotten "ready to ride" and something came up or the weather changed. We finally did it. We headed for a small town outside the Park City area called "Okley". We had heard on the TV about a "diner" they moved from back East to this small little town. It was used back east during the 40's and 50's and up until last March was being refurbished for us in Oakley, Utah. It looks just like a train car, has a long train of seats up at the counter and many booths. We signed our name up and when our name was called was excited to go in and see what it was like back in those days. All the waitresses names were like, FLO, SOFIE, JUDY, and some other old fashioned names. Their hair was fixed like back in the forties and you really felt like you were in that period. I'm upset because I took about 15 pictures and my computer would only download one of them, probably because my camera card was wicked or had PMS. I had a picture of the food we ordered, which was quite the full plate. The hamburger had to be at least 1lb. of meat along with a huge bun, lightly toasted. I ordered Onion Rings to see what they would be like and I've never seen such HUGE ONION RINGS! They were so delicious and the waitress threw about 7 on my plate. At the end, I left 1/2 of the hamburger and about 3 onion rings. It was WAY TOO MUCH to eat. Even Kay couldn't eat all he had on his plate. I recommend anyone who enjoys nostalgia to visit this quaint but surreal restaurant. They even have REAL Malted Milk Shakes, made the old fashioned way. LOVED IT and loved the time we spent together seeing this place for the first time. As we traveled up Provo Canyon to get to the diner, we passed hundreds of rafters going down the Provo River, Fishermen on the river and hundreds of bicyclers enjoying the mountains and scenery. It was a beautiful day for a bike ride. As we were coming home, a big thundercloud came over us and we got dumped on (for about 5 minutes) and then made our way back home. What turned out to be a "short ride" ended up taking us about 4 hours. We met some really nice people who were under the Interstate underpass with us and our visit was really interesting to say the least.
